The Palace on Wheels is an eight-day journey that guides you through the grandeur of Rajasthan.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Delhi Departure
The luxury train journey kicks off from Safdarjung Railway Station; check-in time is 4:30 PM and you will be given a grand welcome. Traditional garlands, tikka and turban presentation followed by check-in for Week in Wonderland experience More: Palace on Wheels staff are all dressed in traditional costumes to click this royal moment. After you get to your saloon cabin, a personal attendant will walk you through the features of your suite. Have your welcome drink while relaxing at the Bar Lounge. At 18:30, the train departs and you will be served dinner while your royal adventure begins.
Day 2: Jaipur – The Pink City
Have your breakfast on the train, and reach Jaipur via the royal elephant that meets you to take you into the city. The tour first heads to the St. Albert Museum and then to the Pink City Palace, followed by a visit to UNESCO World Heritage site Jantar Mantar where ancient astronomical instruments are situated. It will also include a short photo stop at the most iconic view of all, Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds).
Afternoon trip to the Amber Fort with a thrilling elephant ride up the fort’s steep ramparts. Lunch at the 1135 AD Boutique Restaurant in the fort. Then spend time wandering the many courtyards and around the impressive 16th-century palace that fuses Rajput and Mughal architecture.
Spend some time exploring the bustling market of Jaipur before heading back to board the train around 6:00 PM. The train departs in the evening, and dinner will be served on board.
Day 3 (Morning) : Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve
Awaken early at 6: 30 AM for a thrilling jungle safari on the renowned Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. This reserve, world famous for its animal wildlife home is the home of tigers panthers, sloth bears and others. At the end of the safari, the traveller departs from Sawai Madhopur Railway Station and completes his/her journey by having a pretrailed lunch on board.
Day 3 (Afternoon) : Chittorgarh Fort
In the Afternoon, we will visit the Chittorgarh Fort. End the day at the Chittorgarh Railway Station by 4:00 PM to visit the Chittorgarh Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also known as the ‘chittor’, the western and northern castle is among the oldest and vastest fort complexes on the subcontinent. Gain insight into the ups and downs of the majestic fort and then listen to a Sound & Light Show that recreates the fort’s history. For dinner, go back to the train, which will leave out after midnight.
Day 4 : Udaipur - The City of Lakes
Arrive in Udaipur by 8:00 AM and take your first step on a magnificent scene, the view of the City Palace, a complex building which includes magnificent balconies, towers and courtyards. Describe your account of the Crystal Gallery, a chamber of royal belongings. Then a visual tour in Lake Pichola 5 on a boat with Lake Palace Hotel 6. Lunch is a maharajah’s feast, prepared in the Fatehprakash Palace Hotel, and a private small banquet in the Saheliyon ki Bari, the Royal Garden. You will have the opportunity to do shopping before going back to the train at 3:00 PM. Dinner will be served as you continue your journey.
Day 5 : Jaisalmer - The Golden City
Having breakfast onboard, the train reaches Jaisalmer at 9.30 a.m. Check out the Jaisalmer Fort, which looks like something out of a fairy tale pastel book, golden in the desert sun and you’ll wanders its narrow lanes and around I rent an elaborate mansion called Patwon ki haveli. Nearby you will find Jain Temples featuring beautiful carvings and ancient manuscripts.
Have lunch in a 5-star hotel, then return to the train for relaxation and continue to the Sam Sand Dunes in Thar Desert. Departure for camel sales as sunset, where you will be greeted by a cultural performance and dinner in high luxury hotel. Then its return to the train by 10.00pm for departure.
Day 6: Jodhpur – The Blue City
Reach Jodhpur by 8:00 AM, Sightseeing in Mehrangarh Fort a 16th-century fort. The fort hosts lovely collections of courtyards, royal palaces and a museum displaying the royal pieces. Explore Jaswant Thada, a graceful marble cenotaph, and check out Umaid Bhawan Palace where you will see a museum exhibiting royal memorabilia.
Lunch at Hanwant Mahal Boutique Restaurant Then head back to the train by 3:30 pm, where dinner will be served on board.
Day 7 (Morning): Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
Reach Bharatpur at 6:30 am to visit Keoladeo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site also known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Take a cycle rickshaw ride across the sanctuary identify and lay witness to over 375 endemic and migrating birds. Back on the train for breakfast facing departure at 08:45.
Day 7 (Afternoon): Agra - The City of Taj
Get to Agra at around 10:30 AM, and start your tour with the majestic UNESCO World Heritage-listed Agra Fort, which used to be the primary seat of the Mughal Empire. Lunch at the fine dining ITC Mughal Hotel followed by a visit to the Taj Mahal: one of Seven Wonders of the World. This immaculate mausoleum built of marble is a way to prove timeless love. Free time for shopping, then head back to the train for dinner and depart.
Day 8: Return to New Delhi
Return to New Delhi The Palace on Wheels arrives at Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi by 5:30 AM. After a final breakfast on board, disembark and check out by 7:15 AM. The Grand Tour of the royal couple is over.
